Chinese cloisonné tripod censor. Circa 1850 (possibly earlier).
Superbly decorated in beautiful colors with motifs of lotus, scrolling vines, and chrysanthemums. Diaper border on the rim edge enamelled in dark blue forming a decorative repeating geometric pattern derived from traditional Chinese design. The three gilt bronze tripod legs are decorated with face of a mythical creature (most likely a dragon). The censor lid (see condition) in bronze with scrolling vines and tulips symbolising elegance, beauty, prosperity and good fortune. Quality and heavy piece at 365g. [Stand not included].
Condition: The censor would have been adourned by a Foo Dog. This has been clipped off leaving the aperture in the lid. One leg is very slightly loose. The cloisonne enamel work is superb and in original condition. No restoration.
